Set the scene with the frame moulding – choosing the right style will show off the art, especially when you consider your own interior décor as well.
Our experienced design team has sourced an extensive collection of high quality, solid-wood mouldings to suit all art styles. They are sourced with care to ensure the timber is of a recognised origin and we often deal directly with the mill, to further ensure quality and traceability back to the forest source.
The picture mount draws the eye in to the artwork. The functional role of the mount is to create a gap between the artwork and the glazing which helps prevent damage from condensation or prints sticking to the glazing. We only use acid-free mount-board, which eliminates the risk of burn – staining of the print due to contaminants leeching from the board. Our mounts are also white-core, which means the cut bevel-edge nearest the print remains crisp and white; lesser quality boards quickly discolour.
The glazing plays a vital role in protecting your artwork from scratches, dirt and dust. For safety reasons, we use Perspex in all our products, which is incredibly high quality and ensures immaculate clarity and colour accuracy.
To ensure your artwork retains its looks over time, it is bonded to an acid-free backing board. This prevents the print from wrinkling and from slumping within the frame. To finish off, we add a rigid backing board, which is secured and then all joints taped. This prevents the ingress of dust and any troublesome insects, as well as adding rigidity to the frame so it’s ready for hanging, and admiring.
Our team of framers cut, join and assemble every frame by hand – each one is a labour of love. We value quality above all else so the whole process is overseen by our Master Framer who ensures standards are maintained every step of the way. To help you get your work of art up on the wall as quickly as possible, each frame comes with hanging fittings.
The images you see on this site are available as standard prints, art paper prints or canvas prints, and at the various sizes listed below. A selection of frames are also available in the framing studio. However, due to the file sizes of smaller images, some of the larger print sizes will not be available to select.
Standard prints are very similar to photographic prints, they are printed on photographic paper and can be ordered in either a gloss or satin finish. The satin finish is not a true matt finish, and has a slight shine to it. If you intend to frame your print behind glass then we recommend that you select the satin finish so that you get less light reflection from the print/glass.
Art paper prints are printed on a thicker paper than the standard prints, which has a slight texture to it and gives the picture the feel of a water colour painting. The print is produced using Giclée inks, which makes the colours slightly more vibrant than the standard prints.
Canvases come either stretched over a wooden frame ready to hang on a wall or rolled up if you prefer. If ordering from outside the UK the postage and packaging costs will be much less if you purchase the canvas rolled and you will save money by having it stretched locally once you receive it.
Frame details can be viewed by clicking on the "View frame detail" information button under the frame selector. Clicking on the button opens a panel showing a close-up of the moulding, a section view of the moulding and a brief desciption of what types of image the moulding is best used with.
RHS Prints uses the latest digital technology. However, because the original images available in this collection come in all shapes and sizes, and will never be cropped or distorted, different images will have different borders. When you order a product, the product choice screen will give you an approximate portrayal of how the image will fit on different print sizes. You may decide to choose a particular print size because the image selected fits well at that size.
Art Print Frames
* size varies depending on the aspect ratio of the image. If an image has say an aspect ratio of 4:3 (width to height) and you wanted to buy a 1.00m x *m sized canvas, then the image size on the canvas would be 1.00m wide by 0.75m high.
When ordering canvas prints, we offer sizes in 0.25m increments, starting at 0.5m (these increments being the length of the longest side of the image).
Rolled canvas prints are shipped with a 75mm white space around the image to enable you to get it stretched properly. The largest rolled canvas print we currently produce is 1.25m x 0.95m.
Stretched canvas prints are shipped using 25mm stretcher bars for A4 size canvases and 35mm stretcher bars for the larger size canvases. The image is printed with a white border so that it is this white canvas that is wrapped around the edge of the stretcher bars. The larger sizes have a crossbar. The largest stretched canvas print we currently produce is 1.25m x 1.00m.
